Maryland Personal Property Return (SDAT Form 1)

All incorporated local PTAs in Maryland are required to submit an annual Personal Property Return online to the State Department of Assessments and Taxation (SDAT) to maintain active corporate standing.

⚠️ State Filing Deadline: April 15th (Annually)

Filing your return online by April 15th prevents your local unit's corporate status from being forfeited with the State of Maryland and ensures ongoing Standards of Affiliation (SOA) compliance.

Important Filing Details for PTAs:

  • Mandatory Online Filing: SDAT requires electronic filing for Annual Personal Property Returns via Maryland Business Express. Paper forms are no longer accepted for standard annual filings.
  • Exemption Status: As non-profit 501(c)(3) entities, most local PTAs do not owe state personal property tax, but submitting the annual return online is still mandatory to stay active.
  • Extensions: SDAT allows units to request a free filing extension to June 15th directly online if extra time is needed.
