Advocacy & Community

The Harford County Council of PTA serves as an extension of Free State PTA whose mission is to provide support and mentorship to Harford County PTA leaders, students, families, and educators across Harford County Public Schools (HCPS). We work closely with school system leadership, county officials, and local community organizations to ensure every child has access to a safe, supportive, and exceptional educational environment.

πŸ›οΈ Legislative & District Advocacy
(Grounded in Goals I & V)

We represent the unified concerns of Harford County families at the local, state, and national levels:

District & County Engagement: Maintaining an active presence at Board of Education, County Council, and municipal meetings regarding HCPS Operating and Capital budgets.

Prioritizing Local Issues: Coordinating collective concerns across our local units so members can take meaningful action on key educational issues.

Fiscal Advocacy: Demystifying public school funding so parents and leaders can effectively advocate for essential education resources.

🀝
Community & School Partnerships
(Grounded in Goals II, III & VI)

Strong partnerships enhance student learning and strengthen our schools:

Bridging Expertise & Classroom Learning: Collaborating with HCPS to showcase how parents and community members can bring their professional acumen and unique skills into school environments to supplement core curricula.

Connecting Community Partners: Building relationships with local organizations, civic groups, and district allies to support school communities.

Expanding Unit Relevancy: Chartering new PTAs and providing outreach strategies to build strong home-school partnerships across every neighborhood.

πŸ’¬ Inclusive Leadership & Family Voice
(Grounded in Goal IV)

We believe every school community deserves strong, representative advocacy:

Broadening Representation: Actively recruiting diverse board leaders and committee chairs across all Harford County school communities.

Empowering Local Delegates: Ensuring every local PTA/PTSA unit has an active voice in Council governance and districtwide decisions.
